Going Green with Five to Five Hotel
Environmental conservation is an umbrella term that defines anything we do to protect our planet and conserve its natural resources, so that every living thing can have an improved quality of life. We only have one planet and we should all do our part to ensure that it’s protected by combining our modern ways of living with an understanding of what nature provides.
Environmental conservation comes in many forms and reminds us to be mindful of daily choices. It is fairly easy to make small, yet necessary changes for the good of the earth, and with little steps, we would make our way towards major progress.
Five to Five Hotel thought this can be achieved by paying more attention to what we use at our hotel, avoiding unnecessary usage of resources, & also remembering to recycle and dispose of chemicals properly so that the atmosphere is not endangered. Going Green has been one of our main focus ever since our hotel began, which explains our brand color & trees in the logo.
Below are a few key solutions we are implementing daily to play our part in environmental conservation:
While we don’t completely control how energy is offered to us, there’s always room to live in a way that uses less of the energy that can’t be replenished. We began to conserve by making small changes to everyday routines such as using window light instead of turning on lights during the day and replace standard light bulbs with bulbs that are energy-efficient that last for an extended period of time.
As the studies show, deforestation continues to be a major environmental issue and planting trees & gardens is a way to give back to mother nature, because it aids in the restoration of what is lost during deforestation. Which is why we play a part also as Five to Five hotel by planting gardens, as the gardens grow they protect the soil from harsh weather conditions, protecting us from excess carbon dioxide, & enabling us to live longer and more comfortably.
One of Rwanda’s missions is to maintain a clean and healthy environment, it has been ongoing since 2008 when there was a ban on the use of non-biodegradable plastic bags and packaging materials. Five to Five Hotel also integrated into the system by trying to use only packaging made out of paper and cotton among other biodegradable materials.
Five to Five Hotel tries to incorporate the concepts of sustainable living, by using less and conserving more, there has noticeably been a positive impact. If an electric item isn’t being used, it needs to be unplugged, all we have to do is unplugging every item that’s not in use. This saves more energy produced by nature, all the while being cost effective.
However much the hotel usually needs to use a lot of water, we are mindful of every drop, therefore we try to save it in all possible ways, such as turning off the faucet in case water is not being used at the moment, and making use of nature’s water by collecting rainwater in tanks to water our lawns in time of dryness.
At Five to Five Hotel, we are trying to reduce air pollution that is accumulated by burning products which would rather be recycled, such as glass, plastics, aluminium and paper. We are also adopting to using reusable towels and reusable bags rather than using disposable plastics & bags.
It is always advisable to eliminate maximum household chemicals and pesticides that directly pollute the green environment. What we are trying to replace them with are natural cleaning products, and making our own solutions such as distilled vinegar, lemon and baking soda instead of solely relying on polluting chemicals and pesticides.
If you share the concerns of environmental conservation and have decided to go green with Five to Five Hotel, you can always Book with Us and together we can preserve mother nature.

Do you have a wastewater treatment plant? Because that is one of the solutions to protect the environment. And I would love to design one for you.
